Recounting the heroic tragedy of Karbala provides the Muslim community and all people of conscience a platform for exploring how we can actualize moral and Islamic ideals in our society today.
This year’s lecture series, “Prophetic Culture: Decay and Revival,” will explore three major themes:
Prophetic Culture: the social institutions, norms, and values that the Prophet Muhammad established to shape the early Muslim community
Decay: how Prophetic Culture eroded until the stand of Imam Husayn
Revival: how our community can renew and re-shape Prophetic Culture in our society today
After each lecture, poets will recite mourning poetry to connect our hearts to the stories of the martyrs and spurn us to social transformation.
Finally we will make space for community led reflections on various Karbala-related themes before finishing the evening in communal prayer.
We look forward to building together as a community.
Schedule:
